report report report time!!

overall.

i enjoyed myself in the exhibition.
enjoy the process of.
looking at my works.
other's works.
sharing our time capsules.
the conversations.
somehow other than knowing myself more.
for me.
i knew my classmates more.

my project: don't trust memory.

it's a reflection of what it meant to me.
my identity.
my thoughts.
my struggles in unravelling about memories.
it's a personal journey.
and presenting tru this exhibition.

2 posters:

im happy with the final design.
the mood.
and strong image.
pretty clean and simple.
yet with a message behind.
just feel it reflects how i view memory.

archive as "such":

for me.
it's an interesting way to present my collection.
overall it has a strong graphic element.
that kind of nostalgic presence.
the raw and "unfinished" feel.
the handwritten and the polaroid frame ties together with the poster.
however if given an opportunity to have a big personal space.
haha not possible in this case.
would love to arrange it such that it in a long strip.
so that audience sees it like a roll of film.
and shows the vast memories we have.
taking time to walk tru and recall memories one by one.

translation of archive:

a series of thoughts.
journey in uncovering the mysteries of memories.
understanding.
and yet getting lost and tangled in the process.
what i like is that the process wasnt summarized.
into just a series which clearly presented the essence about memory.
instead.
the only way to understand for yourself and relating to it.
is to look deep into your own memory.
that's why i chose to present in a simple diary way.
attached is a polaroid frame.
which again shows that what we want to rem.
we control what we keep as memory.
what i feel or remember.
is different from how you'd perceive.
the books seems quite subtle.
a possible improvement would probably to simplify further.
a possible way to bring across the intention more direct.
rather than needing the audience to read tru the book.
there may be another possibility.
if want to let the audience understand in a faster manner.
the design and texture of the book could be improved.
to reflect the emotion and environment as the author is writing.
rather than making it too clean?

time capsule:

handwritten letter to the class.
personal.
words of encouragement.
quotes.
love.
ways to improve.
if possible i'd like to write it individually to every classmate a letter.
rather than writing 1.
and at the end keeping it myself.
purpose is for all to keep their own.
and years down the road to relive that moment.
wasted.
haha.

some other images.
of things that i was drawn to.

thank you lam.
really love the quote u created.

thank you zi rui.
hmm i tried to give it sun.
haha not sure what's supposed to turn out.
hope for something? ^^

alvin.
really love the poster and it's treatment.
love the idea of getting inspiration.
from as simple as drawings of monster.
into typography.

after researching on memory. ever tot i wouldnt pull tru.
got affected somehow. i guess.

but on a lighter note.
came across this jap drama.
(i know supposed to like chiong the proj =p)
hee but on a lighter note. this drama is really hopeful and encouraging.

liar game
http://www.mysoju.com/liar-game/

starting it seems manipulating but towards the end.
to me it's about believing.

is the same as memory. if we choose to forget.
there's bound to be day it resurfaces and u've to relive it again.
y not believe in good of pple.
and start trusting again.
maybe those bad memories would really just vanish.
ok. it sounds too idealistic.
but i guess the truth is to believe.

some see to believe.
while others believe to see.
in reality world. it's natural to see than believe.
but then. if u believe what u see. there's tt glimpse of hope.
rather than undermining or doubting anything.

hmm not sure who wil read this since proj is ending.
not sure if u all feel it's relevant.
or prob tink im just being emo or lame..hahaha
well.
this drama gave a little hope and smile.
so sharing it with u all ^^

many loves,
steffi ^^

an archive is something that is accumulated
over a life time. it could be in any form collected
by an individual. it is a unique by product of
uman activities. just like memory. memories
make up your life experiences. your collective
set of memories make who you are. every memory
is personal and exclusive. no two persons will
recall an experience identically. memory is
intangible. memorygives a sense of time. how each
one of us registers an event is different. but can
you trust your memory. is what that is presented
to you real. we control our memory. we decide
whether to remember it or not. it is not reliable and
can be distorted. memories are scary. you try to
tuck away a certain memory and hope to forget.
you succeed. but when looking at a memento or
familiar scene it triggers back that certain memory.
everything surfaces again. you relive that same
moment. it feels too real. we all need memories to
remind ourselves who we are. losing your memory
is like losing your identity. but since it is your
perception and decision how a memory
is kept.
then what is real or not.

dont trust memory.
